- Monitor Will Not Charge
- Screen Is Unresponsive
- Audio Distorted/ No Sound Produced
- Device Does Not Turn On
Your monitor is having trouble charging.
If the monitor does not charge when plugged in, try to test the charger with another monitor to ensure it is working properly. If the charger works, then the power input may be damaged. This may require the power input to be replaced.
If battery life appears to be shorter than when first purchased, try restarting the device. If this procedure does not work, the battery may be drained. If device does not turn on and is not charging when plugged in, you may have a dead battery. Both instances require the battery to be swapped.
Your monitor does not read touch input on touchscreen or does not turn on.
If you are trying to move to different pages on the device and the screen is not responding to touch commands, get a pencil and push in the reset button on the side of the device and hold it for several seconds. This will turn it off and require you to turn it back on.
If you touch the screen in a certain area but the touch command is executed in a different area, your screen may not be calibrated correctly. Look for calibration options in the settings of your device. If this does not solve the problem, you may need to replace the screen.
If you know the battery is charged and working properly but there is nothing visible on the screen after holding the power button for several seconds, the screen may have to be replaced.
Your monitor turns on and appears to function well, but when you try to play sound, the audio doesn't play or produces sound poorly .
First, check to make sure that the mute option is off on the device. If the sound is set to the maximum level, but there is no sound coming from the monitor, the speaker may need to be replaced.
First, check to make sure that the mute option is off on the device. When the volume is set and the monitor does not produce the correct level of sound, there may be some kind of damage to the speaker. If there is any kind of damage to the speaker, the sound may be muffled or distorted. If this is the case, you will have to replace the speaker.
Your monitor does not respond to the power button.
First, ensure that the battery is functional by referring to the guides found above in the Faulty Battery section. If so, you need to replace the power button.

Basically functions but management and retrieval of footage terrible
For a start the remote management uses Active X controls. This means the management system will not run on modern versions of IE and not under windows 10.
The active X interface is extremely buggy. It is only good for configuration. It cannot be used to search or review recorded footage. Why even in 2015 active X controls were used for the remote management user interface is beyond me . . .
Trying to review recorded footage and do anything that involves fast access and the interface system crashes. The main system seems to keep running - the active X server dies and takes many minutes to reboot / recover on the DVR.
If you have an incident you wish to review foot age if you will not be able to use either the direct access console or remote management to isolate the incident footage. The provided user controls are too clunky and at 16x forward speed the interface will consistently die.
The only way to review is to download to a USB drive the footage for the time spanning the incident then review offline. Even this is buggy - the configuration screen does not give the correct file size of the selected footage e.g. 28Gbyte always indicated - actual footage was 7Gbyte - this makes it hard to judge what USB capacity is required.
The firmware that was shipped in the DVR is version 1.0.0.There have been no updates and this indicates Uniden's response to such issues.

The remote access to camera live views - as indicated above - is a mess.
All the issues - for me at least - seem to be related to user accounts and the lack of documentation on how to set this up.
So some advice to follow based on my experience:
You cannot use the console (direct connection to the DVR) admin account credentials for cell phone access.
You can create local accounts on the DVR with normal or advanced access but only normal accounts can be used for remote access.
The account used to login into Guardian Live portal has nothing to so with the above DVR accounts - a new portal account must be created.
I hope this helps.

Complete waste of money and time.
Online manual lacks sufficient detail. Doesn't properly explain functions or features. Have a technical IT background and still had great difficulty setting it up. To top it off as soon as I finally figured how to use and configure it the main unit kept started freezing then continually rebooted. This problem could not be resolved. Unfortunately the 12 month warranty had already expired by the time I got around to configuring it. Unit will be dumped. Too light to use as a boat anchor.

Basic system with terrible features and non existant customer service.
I would have preferred to buy a different brand system. Sure this system records, but that's about all its good for. The mobile 'app' - Samsung galaxy phone, is useless. It is very difficult to set up and continually doesn't work properly. The user interface when logged in is also terrible. Looks like it has heaps of features but most don't work on my system, and some I don't know what they even do... I tried looking up in their user manual but that was no help at all - it is very basic and poorly written. I tried contacting the company and never got a response.
Apparently the system has motion sensitivity, so it will alert you if it picks up movement. Don't bother using it. Firstly, its extremely difficult to set up as you don't know what areas are selected and which are not, and secondly because it simply seemed to be extremely sensitive regardless of what settings I chose... It would send me hundreds of 'alert' emails when there was no movement at all - again I consulted the booklet and tried to contact the company for support but got no response. PS im quite technically minded and good with computers and technology in general, and I found this product extremely frustrating.

The Price is too high.
Compare with other products of the same category of surveillance systems, the price for this product is too high. I regret I bough it. Not worth spending money on this, and their Customer Service is terrible.

Needs notification and alert features
There is no alert or notifications of movement to your phone, other wise great Security Camera System.

Security camera DVR straight out of the box
I bought this system for a couple of reasons over others I saw. The first being it came with 6 cameras - 2 of which are internal cameras for our single story home. The build quality of the cameras is okay (cast aluminium although one camera came with a stripped thread meaning it would not be able to be aligned and would keep falling downward. A slight remanufactuing modification has this sorted.
The cameras come pre wired - and come with decent lengths of connection cable (18 metres) to run power to the camera and video back to the 1TB DVR. The install process is not hard - choose the camera location. Drill mounting holes and a larger hole for running the cable through and you're set.
Cables are clearly marked which end is to the camera and which end goes to the DVR. A BNC connector (green) and power (red) are the only 2 wires needed for each camera. The job is fiddly for one running cables through ceiling spaces and using yellow tongue (an electricians trick) to get the cables through. Here a mate can really be of assistance. The BNC connection screws tightly together whereas the power just presses together. I'd suggest taping the power connections together to prevent accidental power plug disconnection at the camera end.
It took a day to install the 6 cameras and connect to the DVR. Follow the basic install procedure and voila instant camera security as all came to life.
Some system tweaks and minor adjustments and the areas covered are well seen - even at night with the built in infrared lighting (undesirables don't only work in daylight).
Its not the highest resolution camera system out there at 720p but it's a good start. See the website for the specifications of this rig. You will need a monitor to set the system up. This is needed to connect to the DVR and run through menus and settings. Luckily we had an oldie laying about so it now has a new life.
I bought this set as I would be able to install an additional 2 cameras if needed taking the total number to 8. I may do this later.
You can remotely view the cameras through the GuardianLive App (iPhone and Android). It seems to work okay. It's not fabulous but serviceable and does the job
Pros: quite simple and in the abilities of the average handyman to install in a day. Stylish looking cameras finished in white. Relatively easy to install. Plug and play simplicity. Metal camera housings and glass lenses
Cons: mass production of one camera needing modification to make it serviceable where an adjustment thread has stripped. Nothing stating you need a monitor for setup. Hints for camera position would have been a nice added touch. Some description for camera field of view in degrees.
Finally - all up a surprisingly good system. With a few additions (and improved build quality on the single camera) this could be a great system. I'd say it's not a 9/10 but close. Buy with confidence
Have since had an internal camera fail to work under low light conditions. Reply paid organised back to Uniden Sydney and a new camera dispatched and received so all good. Would have liked notification that the camera had been received and to expect a new one coming. No hassles with my warranty claimUpdate....a second camera has failed and is currently away under technical review for warranty repair or replacement. The camera is installed under eaves and out of the weather but the image was slowly fading and flickering. Will keep you posted.Update - it doesn't seem to be a camera issue but rather an issue with the cable to this camera. A dodgy connection at one of the BNC Connectors could have been the issue. Uniden Customer Service and Tech Support authorised a new cable to be sent. All seems to be working okay as of this moment
Questions & Answers
Hi! Have a gdvr4340. All of a sudden disk is lost.... how do I fix this. Making a ticking sound too...
The disk is quite possible dead based on that ticking noise. I believe you can replace it and re-format it from the admin menu. Can you get into the admin menu still? if so check if a format option is available. To replace it, it is probably a 1Tera byte (1TB) disk so maybe $100 or so to replace. You should buy a 'Surveillance Hard Drive' and not an el cheap drive. But if you do not have the techncial skills you will need to find someone technically minded to do this.Yes, I can get to the formatting still. I will give that a go and also phone Uniden as I think it is under warranty - thank you for your response!Hi Andrea,Thank you for your review.Sorry that your experience with our Uniden product was an inconvenience. Can you please provide a contact number or email?I can arrange for a consultant to get in contact with you.
